
An explosion and subsequent fire in a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans Montana, in the canton of Valais, has caused several deaths and injuries, according to police reports cited by the country’s press. The fire, very violent according to the Police, occurred after several explosions at approximately 1:30 in the morning, during the New Year’s party that was being held at Le Constellation, a local bar, and although their origin is still unknown, the main hypothesis is that of the accident possibly caused by pyrotechnics.
“An explosion of unknown origin occurred in a bar in the tourist center around 1:30 this morning,” a spokesperson for the Valais cantonal police, Gaëtan Lathion, informed several Swiss media. “There are several injured and several dead,” he added. According to the Police, more than 100 people were in the establishment at the time of the incident, to which cantonal police, firefighters and several helicopters have moved.
