A fire consumed a historic church in Amsterdam during New Year’s Eve, local media reported.
Footage recorded by eyewitnesses between Wednesday (31st) and Thursday (1st) from a nearby residential area showed the tower of the Vondelkerk, a historic church near Vondelpark, engulfed in flames and smoke.
Authorities evacuated dozens of nearby homes due to burning debris, local broadcaster NOS reported.

The buildings, street layout, commercial signs and the church tower correspond to images of the area. Reuters was unable to independently verify the cause of the fire.
There were no immediate reports of casualties and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to NOS.
