The life of Viktorka z Babička was full of wounds of fate from the beginning: the actress Geprtová was overtaken by a family curse!

Famous Czech actress Libuše Geprtová was born on December 21, 1941 in Cologne to an intellectual family as the second of twins, writes the newspaper. From a young age, she excelled in her sense of art, well her childhood was marked by the loss of her parents – both died of cancer – as well as separation from her brother, who emigrated.

In addition, she also missed a mother’s love. According to Libuša’s words her mother pushed her away and did not show her much love because her parents did not expect twins to be born to them and it was difficult to raise three children during the war. After completing her pedagogical studies, she began working in regional theaters in Karlovy Vary, Český Těšín, Jihlava and later in Brno, where she gained her first experience and at the same time built her reputation as a talented actress.

Her film debut came in 1961 in the films The Rooster Scares Death and Kde alibi svetáči, no she became widely known only in 1971 in the unforgettable role of Viktorka in the television adaptation of Grandma by Bozena Němcová. In addition to theater and film, she also worked on radio (hosted the program Co máš v rozhlas rad) and dubbing, where she lent her voice to many foreign actresses. She was known for her cultured expression and sensitive expression.

In her personal life, Geprtová was a strong and independent woman. Although she never married, at the age of 43 she gave birth to a son, Svatopluk. The boy bore the actress’s last name and became the center of her life, but another blow of fate came during her pregnancy. Her twin sister was dying of cancer and Svatopluk’s father, actor Vítězslav Jandák (78), left her.

In the 1990s, Divadlo Na zábradlí underwent a fundamental transformation. Although the new artistic director did not want her to leave, there was no longer room for her type of acting in the company. She took the resignation very hard, because the theater was her home. She hardly acted for several years, until Karel Heřmánek cast her in the musical Gypsies go to heaven in 2004, where she was a great success. However, her return was short.

After a sudden pain in her shoulder they diagnosed lung cancer with metastases as far as the brain. Geprtová has been aware all her life that cancer is inherited in the family. She went for check-ups, she was not frivolous, but the disease found her anyway. In the summer of 2005, she underwent surgery and believed that she would recover. Even before that, during the last performance in the theater, she allegedly saw her dead sister in the audience. She claimed it was a sign. She died on November 18, 2005 at the age of 63.
