Caught at 280 km/h by GNR – but may not even pay a fine because of the radar

The offense was committed on the A13, on the route between Salvaterra de Magos and Almeirim. But radar certification doesn’t go far enough.

A GNR – Republican National Guard mounted a normal operation to combat speeding on some motorways.

In this case in A13, and more precisely on the route between Salvaterra de Magos and Almeirima car passed 280 kilometers per hour. But the driver You may not even pay the fine.

Put it into context: the driver was caught by the GNR and, as usual, was identified and fined because of the speed he was driving.

The dialogue took place at the toll booths in Almeirim and the value of the ticket was 500 euros. 4 points were removed from his driving license and the man in question was banned from driving for 2 months.

But the man has already protested this outcome: the radar that caught him is only certified up to 250 km/h. A speed of 280 km/h is already too much to the device.

In other words, the certificate presented does not guarantee that the detected speed is correct.

There are certified speed cameras up to 300 km/h – but this is not one of them.

A source from the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) explained to the local newspaper that it only certifies radars; does not install or distribute them by GNR.
