Among fashionable potted plants, a certain specimen that combines an attractive appearance with exceptional durability is becoming more and more popular. Additionally, it attracts attention and is easy to grow. What’s more, it will cope perfectly even if we forget to water it.
When looking for a plant that will delight with its appearance and at the same time be extremely durable, it is worth choosing a specimen that reminded of a string of pearls. We are talking about Rowley’s old man, one of the most characteristic succulents.
It has thin, creeping or hanging shoots that can reach impressive lengths. In addition, they are covered with unique, spherical leaves that look like green pearls. This is where it stores water, so it can survive longer periods without watering. So this is it an ideal specimen for beginners or those who sometimes forget to water their flowers.
This plant is worth displaying, by placing it in suspended pots or on shelvesso that its charming green shoots with balls can fall freely. Thanks to this, the specimen will be an eye-catching decoration that will attract attention.
Old Man Rowley’s care is not complicated. It is best to place the plant in a bright place, protected from strong sunlight, so that excess light does not burn the leaves. In turn, its deficiency will cause the shoots to lengthen and the color to fade. Therefore, it is worth making sure that the specimen has access to natural light for most of the day.
We must also remember that the plant needs light and well-drained soil. We can use succulent substrate with the addition of perlite or sand. Let’s also make sure that the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from stagnating.

However, when it comes to watering Old Man Rowley, as we mentioned, he can cope better with drought than with overwatering, because his leaves accumulate so much water that they can survive even several weeks without watering. Therefore, it should only be powered when the substrate is dry. In summer, this means watering every 10-14 days, and even less often in winter.
It is also worth adding that this plant does not require heavy fertilization. All you need to do is feed it with a delicate fertilizer for succulents once a month during the growing period. In winter, however, this activity should be completely stopped.
