Alcolumbre says that achievements are not just for the government – 02/02/2026 – Politics

The president of the Chamber, (-PB), defended, this Monday (2), the parliamentary amendments, while the president of the , (-PA), stated that the country’s achievements are not just those of the government (PT), in addition to asking for peace and dialogue, in messages to the (Supreme Federal Court).

This Monday, Congress began the legislative year, with a solemn session in which messages from the Executive and Judiciary were read, in which each power listed its priorities for 2026. Afterwards, Motta and Alcolumbre gave their speeches.

When mentioning the reduction in Income Tax for those who receive up to R$5,000, a proposal from the Lula government approved by Congress last year, Alcolumbre stated that “these achievements do not belong to a government, a party or a legislative House”, but to the Brazilian people.

Motta stated that it is up to the plenary to “enforce Congress’s constitutional prerogative to allocate parliamentary amendments to corners throughout Brazil, which, in most cases, are not in the eyes of public authorities”.

Alcolumbre highlighted that this is an election year to demand dialogue and harmony between the Powers. He also said he fought for parliamentary prerogatives and the authority of Congress. “Each Power has its role. It is from mutual respect between them that the stability that Brazil needs is born,” he said.

“I appeal to the country: we need, more than ever, dialogue, common sense and peace. Peace between groups that defend different ideologies. Peace between national institutions. Peace between the Powers of the Republic”, said the senator.

“Dissent is part of democracy. Disagreement is part of politics. […] But we need to state responsibly: dissent cannot turn into hate. When Brazil gets tense, this is where it recovers”, he added.

The message from Palácio do Planalto was delivered by the Minister of the Civil House, (), and read by deputy Carlos Veras (PT-PE), first secretary of the Chamber. The message from the STF (Supreme Federal Court) was read by the president of the court, who was present at the session.

Some of the Bolsonarian leaders in Congress missed the ceremony. The right-wing agenda, which includes articles against the STF and the overturn of the veto on the Dosimetry PL, was passed over by the Chamber leadership, which in the first week.
