The Brazilian futsal team beat Argentina 2-1 this Sunday (1st) in Luque, Paraguay, and won the 12th Copa América title, a tournament that has had 15 editions to date.
Brazil’s goals were scored by João Victor, at the beginning of the first half, and by captain Dyego, in the last minute of the match. Shortly before, Argentina had tied the game with a goal from Matías Rosa.
The tournament started with ten teams, divided into two groups. After the first phase matches, the two best teams in each group advanced to the semifinals.
In their campaign, Brazil had five wins and one draw. In their debut in the competition, the Brazilian team disappointed and drew 2-2 with Colombia. Despite the team’s poor start, Brazil improved its performance in the following matches.
In other duels in the first phase, the Brazilian team beat Bolivia 6-0 and, against Chile, won 2-0, in a match in which they had difficulty finding a gap in the opponent’s defense.
In the 2-1 victory over Venezuela, the team took the lead in the tournament and confirmed their qualification for the semi-finals, when they calmly faced Peru and won 4-2.
The Argentine team has already won the Copa América three times and is the only country, alongside Brazil, to have won titles in the competition.
The first two placed in the tournament guarantee participation in the FIFA (International Football Federation) Futsal World Cup.
