Os ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes, Flávio Dino, Gilmar Mendes and Kassio Nunes Marques went to the Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasília, and followed the Supercopa Rei title won by Corinthians, who beat Flamengo 2-0 this Sunday, 1st.

Moraes followed the game alongside his wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes, pressured by the same political class, especially in the National Congress, for having maintained a contract for the provision of legal services of high economic value with Banco Master.

The minister was seen alongside Dino, Nunes Marques, the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho and his brother, the Minister of Cities, Jader Filho and Gilmar Mendes. Parliamentarians were also seen alongside STF ministers – among them, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB).

The game was followed by political fans of both teams and different political spectrums. Barbalho and Nunes Marques support Flamengo, and Moraes supports Corinthians; Botafoguense, Dino watched the game wearing a Timão shirt.

Other politicians were seen in the stands – such as the head of the Health department, Alexandre Padilha.

As Coluna do Estadão showed, Flamengo in particular saw this Sunday’s game as an opportunity to get closer to the political class, in Brasília, and distributed tickets in the box even to deputies who are not from Rio.

Also on Saturday night, the 31st, the president of Flamengo, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, was alongside politicians at a dinner to discuss presidential vetoes that affect Football Limited Societies (SAF).

A veto by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva means that SAFs pay less taxes than associative entities, such as Flamengo and Corinthians. The red-blacks want to overturn this veto.

“I’m very proud of the red and black bench and I remain firm in defending Flamengo, the sport and everything it represents on and off the field. When Flamengo is strong, Brazilian sport is strong too”, said federal deputy Júlio Lopes (PP-RJ), one of those present at the meeting.

“Sport cannot be punished by a tax reform. A SAF cannot be equated with an associative club. This is bad for sport and bad for the country”, said Baptista.

especially for federal deputies and senators. They, who usually arrive in the federal capital on Tuesday, anticipated their trip to see the match and be present at the session that reopens the work of the National Congress, to be held this Monday, 2.
