A small boat sank this weekend near Ponte do Freixo, one of the two crew members managed to get out and swim to the banks of the river but another, aged 40, is missing.
The search for a man aged around 40 who disappeared on Saturday after a pleasure boat sank in the Douro was interrupted early this evening, without the victim having been found.
In a statement, the Maritime Authority explained that “in the search operations, coordinated by the Port Captain and Local Commander of the Douro Maritime Police, members of the Douro Maritime Police Local Command and crew from the Douro Lifeguard Station were involved in carrying out patrols on the banks of the river”.
A Maritime Authority also states that the searches will resume tomorrow morning and that the Maritime Police Psychology office is providing support to the victim’s family, as well as to the 40-year-old man who managed to get out of the water by his own means..
In the early afternoon of Saturday, around 3:00 pm, Porto’s Firefighters Sapadores received an alert about a small boat that had capsized when two people were traveling in it, near Ponte do Freixo, one of whom had managed to get out and swim to the banks of the river.
A Maritime Authority reported at the end of the day on Saturday that he was a man, also around 40 years old, who was physically well and that the causes of the sinking were unknown.
On the same day, during the search, the crew at the Lifeguard Station also detected “a semi-rigid vessel that was stuck”, and “the three people who were on board” were rescued, all “physically well, without the need for medical assistance”.
