Even before babies can grasp, speak or react in a targeted manner, their brains already organize the world around them in a surprisingly systematic way. What seems natural to adults – such as recognizing a cat as a cat – can apparently be done by infants as young as two months old. This means that thinking begins earlier than science has long assumed.
