Two men were repairing electrical structures in Leiria; one died, the other was injured. E-Redes investigates work accident.

A man he died this Monday and another was injured num work accident in Leiriawhen repaired electrical structures for E-Redesfollowing Kristin’s depression, several sources told the Lusa agency.

According to the Leiria District Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), the fatal victim has 37 years and the injured man, whose condition was unknown, 40 years old.

PSP source said that the worker died electrocuted and both worked for the company Canas, which is providing services to E-Redes in the repair of electrical structures following the bad weather.

Official source from E-Redes, the main operator of the electricity distribution network in mainland Portugal for high, medium and low voltage networks, confirmed that the victims, one dead and one seriously injured, are employees of the company Canas who were working for the operator.

E-Redes investigates

E-Redes mourned the death of this worker and announced a investigation to a work accident.

In information sent to the Lusa agency, E-Redes stated that it “deeply regrets the record of a fatal victim and an injured person, at the service of one of its partners, in the context of network replacement work following the depressions that have affected mainland Portugal”.

“The company promptly launched an investigation to determine the causes of this accident and will maintain full transparency, collaboration and solidarity with those involved”, declared the main operator of the electricity distribution network in mainland Portugal for high, medium and low voltage networks.

The President of the Republic lamented this death, “another victim of the elements”. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also addresses a word of “recognition and gratitude to all the operatives and volunteers who are on the ground, ensuring the well-being and safety” of fellow citizens.

The elected President of the Republic, António José Seguro, expressed “his regret and condolences to the victim’s family”.

56 thousand without electricity

On Monday morning, 56 thousand E-Redes customers remained without electricity supply in mainland Portugal due to damage caused by bad weather to the distribution network, the company reported this Monday.

In a balance made at 8 am, the company indicated that “around 48 thousand customers remain to be fed in the Kristin depression area”. Leiria is the most affected district with 36 thousand, followed by Santarém with eight thousand, Coimbra e White Castle with two thousand each, according to E-Redes.
