It should come as no surprise that the director is responsible for the provocative thriller Promising Young Woman and Saltburn As is known, he didn’t exactly wear kid gloves when dealing with Emily Brontë’s source material. Nevertheless, hardly any film has managed to polarize as much before its premiere as Emerald Fennell’s reinterpretation of the much-loved classic book Wuthering Heights. Fennell’s anachronistic approach to costumes and soundtrack received a lot of criticism two years before its release. Especially because of the casting of Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff – presumably a character of Roma origin – lovers of the novel are concerned about how to properly handle the subtleties and complexity of the story.
