Russia gets involved in the Greenland issue. “Evidently”

Lavrov warned that “military-technical” measures will be adopted if Greenland is militarized by the West. And he talked about the START treaty.

A Greenland is being the target of an obvious dispute between Denmark and the USA, with Europe particularly paying attention. But the Russia is not “sleeping”.

A NATO there’s a new one military mission starting this Wednesday, the Arctic Sentinel, to reinforce its presence in the Arctic zone. If this means more military personnel in Greenland, Russia will react.

Sergei Lavrov admitted that the Greenland issue must be resolved between Denmark, the USA and the Danish island itself.

However: “Evidently, if there is a militarization of Greenland and the creation of military capabilities that target Russia, we will respond with appropriate measures, including technical-military measuress”.

The Russian Foreign Minister added, in this speech to Parliament in Moscow, that Denmark has treated the inhabitants of Greenland as “second-class citizens”.

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, had already said last year that Russia “has never threatened anyone in the Arctic. But we closely follow the evolution of the situation, strengthening the combat capacity of the Armed Forces and modernizing military infrastructure.”

A Russia carried out at least 33 military maneuvers in the Arcticsince the beginning of 2025. About half were exercises, training.

The Arctic area could serve as a testing ground for new surveillance drones; its resistance to adverse weather conditions is assessed.

Sergei Lavrov also spoke about the status of the nuclear treaty, the last major bilateral nuclear arms control agreement between the US and Russia, which expired last week.
