The bloody balance from Iran: the number of victims of nationwide protests has reached 7,000 according to the latest data

while the theocratic regime officially admits less than half of the victims, independent observers from the HRANA organization warn that the real balance may be even more tragic due to hundreds of missing persons.

The number of victims of brutal interventions by security forces against participants in nationwide protests in Iran has exceeded 7,000. Many persons are still missing or feared dead. Referring to human rights activists, the AP agency reported on this on Thursday, writes TASR.

  • The number of victims in Iran exceeded 7,000 people.
  • Many people are still missing or presumed dead.
  • The American agency HRANA published the latest data on victims.
  • Official Iranian figures are significantly lower and incomplete.
  • Mass protests broke out as a result of the country’s economic crisis.

Blood balance

The latest balance of 7,002 victims was published by the US Human Rights Activists Reporting Agency (HRANA). Observers note that EDGE was also accurate in counting casualties during previous unrest in Iran, where it works with a network of activists and informants. The gradual increase in the number of dead is related to the difficult verification of information, as communication with people in Iran is limited.

The Iranian government released its only official figure on January 21, when it reported 3,117 casualties. In the past, the theocratic regime underestimated the number of victims of riots or did not report on them at all.

Protests in Iran

The AP was unable to independently verify the death toll as authorities cut off Internet access and international phone calls.

Mass protests in Iran erupted in late December 2025 due to a deepening economic crisis and quickly spread across the country in opposition to the authoritarian government. The riots escalated during the nights of January 8 and 9, when the security forces brutally cracked down on protesters.
