The black and white team took off in the second half, in which they won 2-0
Corinthians reacted after the frustration of losing the last derby and achieved their first victory in the Brasileirão by defeating Red Bull Bragantino at the Neo Química Arena on Thursday night (12). The black and white team took off in the second half, a stage in which they won 2-0. If the attack was not productive, the defense resolved it. Defender Gabriel Paulista, with a header, and left-back Matheus Bidu found the net.
The triumph ended a short drought against Bragantino, to which they had lost the three previous duels – the last triumph had been achieved in January 2025 – and guaranteed Corinthians their first points in the competition, as their debut was a defeat to Bahia at home and the second round game was postponed.
Bragantino started the round in the lead and, thanks to the defeat, lost positions and their unbeaten record. There are six points won after three rounds. Stung by many fouls and five yellow cards, the first half in Itaquera was not good. The hitherto undefeated leader did not show his football in the last rounds. Normally tormenting Corinthians, Bragantino had difficulty playing.
Corinthians, supported by a very small audience compared to the high average of Corinthians, looked more for the goal. Garro, who returned to the starting lineup, was responsible for being the team’s maestro, but was unable to leave Yuri Alberto and Memphis in a position to score. Both were trapped in the marking.
The physical game intensified towards the end and what we saw were more cards than good football. There were five: Gustavo Henrique and Matheus Bidu for the black and white side, Lucas Barbosa, Gabriel and goalkeeper Cleiton for the Bragança team.
The balanced duel was decided in favor of the hosts at the top. Gabriel Paulista headed the corner goal that Garro took in the first minute of the second half.
The game left Corinthians comfortable on the field, but forced the visitors to attack more. And they soon found the chance to equalize with the penalty that the referee awarded after understanding that Isidro Pitta’s shot was blocked by Gustavo Henrique with his arm. The Paraguayan striker himself hit and missed. Hugo Souza hit the corner and easily saved the batter’s weak shot.
Saved by their goalkeeper, Corinthians did not give their rival from the interior of São Paulo any more opportunities and won the victory minutes later. Yuri Alberto finished and made Cleiton work. On the rebound, Matheus Bidu scored.
