Trump: Possible deal with Iran next month

The president said Thursday that the United States must reach an agreement with and estimated that a deal could be reached within the next month.

“We have to make a deal or it will be very traumatic, very traumatic”Trump told reporters.

At another point, he emphasized that “I will talk to the Iranians as much as I want. If we can’t reach an agreement with them, we will move to phase two. Phase two will be very tough for them. I do not seek such a thing”.

Netanyahu: “Trump is creating the conditions for an agreement with Iran”

Israel’s prime minister hopes US President Donald Trump is “creating the conditions” that could lead to a “good deal” with Iran, but he still has reservations, he said today.

Netanyahu, who met with Trump at the White House on Wednesday, said he generally expressed his “skepticism” and stressed that if a deal is eventually reached “it should include elements that are considered very important to Israel,” such as ending Tehran’s nuclear program, curbs on its ballistic missiles and its support for armed groups such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Gaza’s Hamas and the Houthis in Yemen.

“The conditions that (Trump) is creating, combined with the fact that (the Iranians) certainly understand that they made a mistake last time when they didn’t reach a deal, could allow the conditions to be created to reach a good deal,” Netanyahu said before departing Washington.

Yesterday’s meeting between Trump and Netanyahu took place behind closed doors and lasted two and a half hours. The American president described it as “very good”, but underlined that no important decisions were taken, implying that he did not adopt the Israeli prime minister’s proposals.

“We have a very close, authentic, open relationship,” Netanyahu said today, noting that the conversation focused on many issues but primarily on negotiations with Iran and that Trump wanted “to hear his point of view.”

“The president thinks the Iranians have already learned who they’re dealing with,” he said.
