Meloni had previously stated that Italy could not become a member of the institution due to “constitutional obstacles”. The prime minister said Washington had now invited Italy to join as an observer country, describing the move as a “good solution”.

Considering all the work that needs to be done to stabilize the situation in the Middle East, the presence of Italy and Europe is important, she stressed.

Trump founded the Peace Council on January 22 at the World Economic Forum in Davos and invited about 60 countries of the world to join it. The founding members include, for example, Hungary, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Indonesia. France, the United Kingdom, Germany or the Slovak Republic refused to participate.
