Francisco Pedro Balsemão was a teacher for a day at a school in Lisbon. She left the office of the Impresa group to teach 6th year students at Escola Fernando Pessoa, in an initiative that aims to value the work of teachers.
Being entrepreneurial, taking risks and leading without fear of making mistakes were the levers for Francisco Pedro Balsemão’s class at in Olivais, which is part of the program .
The initiative brings business leaders and local authorities closer to the reality experienced in public schools, with a look closely at the importance of the role of teachers in more disadvantaged contexts.
“This project comes from the hands of Teach for Portugalwho are our partners. This is the second year we have worked with them. They place mentors at the school to work with teachers who express this interest”, explains Cristina Maurício, director of the Fernando Pessoa School Group.
The script gave structure to the entrepreneurship class which was planned by mentor Shira and the teacher for a day Francisco. As a group, the 6th year students they worked on personal and social skills and learned what it means to be an entrepreneur.
“I think he is a person who gives solutions, as if he were trying to rebuild something”explains student Miguel Pereira. Inês Cristóvão states: “It was curious, I had never said it before. I also liked the solutions from the other groups”adding that he liked Francisco Pedro Balsemão in the role of teacher.
Approved teacher, subject up to date, it remains to be seen whether the objectives were met and challenges overcome.
“They were very involved, I found it very interesting the way they encountered problems in their daily lives and easily came up with strategies to solve them. I was very proud,” said Inês Cunha, teacher of Portuguese and History and Geography of Portugal.
“We can all be entrepreneurs and there should also be some hierarchy in the way these problems are encountered and the solutions that are then presented to them”, he added Francisco Pedro Balsemão, CEO of Grupo Imprensa.
