A letter from the North Korean leader

Kim addressed a letter to President Vucic on the occasion of Serbian Statehood Day, which is a reminder of the beginning of the uprising against the Ottoman Empire in 1804. It also commemorates the adoption of the modern constitution of the Principality of Serbia in 1835.

“I hope that bilateral relations will develop in a way that meets the interests of the people of both countries,” said the letter, in which Kim also congratulated the president and the Serbian people.

Serbia and the DPRK maintain diplomatic relations, with their history dating back to the socialist era, when the Balkan country was part of the former Yugoslavia. However, their mutual relations are rather symbolic, as Belgrade strives for European integration and develops economic cooperation with South Korea.
