“No shame”, Obama speaks for the first time about video published by Trump

Former President of the United States, Barack Obama, made his first statement about the racist video published by President, Donald Trump, which showed him and former First Lady, Michelle Obama, with their faces superimposed on the bodies of monkeys.

“Well, first of all, I think it’s important to recognize that The majority of the American people find this behavior deeply disturbing,” said Obama, during an interview with YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen’s “No Lie” podcast, published on Saturday (14).

The former president continued without mentioning Trump by name: “there is this kind of clown show happening on social media and television. What is true is that There doesn’t seem to be any shame anymore about this among people who used to feel it was necessary to have some kind of decorum, sense of propriety and respect for the position. That was lost.”

According to the White House, the publication was shared on Trump’s profile by an employee on Thursday night (5).

The Obamas appear briefly and suddenly at the end of the short video, which promotes false claims that electronic voting machines helped rig the 2020 election, with their faces superimposed on the bodies of monkeys.

As the images appear, for about a second, the beginning of the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” plays in the background.

The post remained online for about 12 hours before being removed from Trump’s profile. THE CNN Brazil chose not to reproduce the publication due to the sensitivity of the content.

The case is the most recent example of the criticism that Trump has received for sharing racist content on his social networks.

Last year, the president published a video apparently created by artificial intelligence showing Barack Obama being arrested in the Oval Office.

Later the same year, Trump and members of his administration also shared digitally altered images and videos of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a fake mustache and sombrero, images that Jeffries publicly described as racist.
