Carnival also took to the streets in Madeira. The parade brought thousands of people to downtown Funchal and is the highlight of the party program.
Samba invaded the avenue and, for a few hours, Funchal gained the rhythm of Brazil because of the allegorical procession. 1700 extras threw the party and everyone who saw it liked it. The parade of the 14 groups lasted two and a half hours and the enthusiasm to participate was so great that limits had to be imposed.
Part of the celebrations of 50 years of regional autonomy, this is the highlight of the carnival program. The parties are for Madeirans and, of course, tourists.
The entertainment runs until February 22nd with performances by samba schools on the central stage and also includes a social satire procession on Carnival Tuesday.
