US President Donald Trump is determined to help Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán succeed. Hungarian success is an American success and this relationship is also an American interest, declared US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday in Budapest at a joint press conference with Orbán, informs the correspondent of TASR in Budapest, referring to the server index.hu.
“President Trump is committed to helping you. Your success is our success, and this relationship is in our best interest. If you’re in financial trouble, if growth is being held back or stability is at risk, we’re here to help.” emphasized the US Secretary of State.
According to Rubio, the American president has an excellent and close relationship with the Hungarian prime minister, which has tangible benefits. “The future depends on the voters, we like Hungarians. There is a very good personal and working relationship between the two leaders,” underlined the head of American diplomacy.
Orbán announced that the invitation for President Trump to visit Hungary is still valid. In response to a question from index.hu, Rubio said that Trump would like to come to Hungary, it also depends on the schedule. He added that the American president expressed his support for Orbán. However, the date of the presidential visit has not yet been determined.
According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, events in the world are changing so quickly that it is difficult to plan for the long term. “Now we have to react quickly to everything, just like the Americans,” he added Orbán with the remark that nothing can be ruled out in connection with Trump’s visit and that the near future will decide that too.
Hungary supports the United States’ peace efforts in Ukraine, emphasized the prime minister, according to whom the current American president has done the most in all international politics to establish peace in the Russian-Ukrainian war. “Everyone knows that if Donald Trump had been president of the United States, this war would not have broken out,” he added that Hungary is still ready to hold a peace summit in Budapest, should it take place.
Rubio reminded that the only goal of the US is to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible. According to him, Washington managed to get the hostile parties to negotiations, which neither the UN nor Europe succeeded in, while last week Russian-Ukrainian-American consultations on ending the war were held in Oman at an expert level.
“I do not understand why some members of the international community do not support the fact that there are countries that actively participate or want to participate in the cessation of hostilities,” said the US Secretary of State, according to whom it was important for Trump that Orbán was on the side of peace from the beginning.
