Red or pink roses are most often given on Valentine’s Day. Some men also give women or lilies. All these cut flowers have the same care requirements. If you don’t want to watch them lose their petals and their stems become limp day by day, take care of them properly. So little is enough to please the eye for weeks.
First of all, we should wash the vase before putting cut flowers into it. Just rinse it from dust under running water. It is also worth disinfecting the vessel by pouring a small amount of vinegar into it. This is important to get rid of bacteria that cause the Valentine’s Day bouquet to rot.
The second, important issue is to cut the ends of the stems at a slight angle. Thanks to this simple procedure, we will increase the surface area for plants to absorb water. Then we remove the lower leaveswhich, when soaked in water, rot. Moreover, they cause the buds to die because they do not have enough nutrients.
Place cut flowers in a bright place, but not in direct sunlight. The site must not be exposed to drafts. Specimens must be kept away from radiators and fruits, such as apples or bananas (they produce ethylene, which accelerates aging and falling of the petals).
We also recommend changing the water in the vase every day. If this rule is omitted, bacteria will multiply and a slimy sediment will be formed, which will clog the conductive vessels in the stem, hinder water uptake and accelerate wilting. It is also a good idea to cut plant stems every day.

Cut flowers, just like potted flowers, need nutrients. In their case, we do not use fertilizers, but special conditioners. They are often given with a bouquet.
However, if we do not have such a nutrient, we can successfully replace it with sugar. Just pour 1-2 teaspoons of this product into water. Thanks to it, the flower buds will open, making the Valentine’s Day bouquet look even more beautiful.
