European national security advisers monitor Russia-US-Ukraine talks

Representatives from major countries are reportedly taking part in tripartite talks – – in Geneva on an agreement to end the , according to the Italian press.

La Repubblica and Corriere della Sera media reported that the national security advisers of Italy, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom are “monitoring the third round of negotiations” and are expected to meet later in the day with the Ukrainian and US delegations. It is noted that in the previous rounds of talks there was no corresponding representation (or it was not known).

Low expectations from the meeting

Earlier, however, the Ukrainian side made it clear that no terrible developments are expected from this round of talks, but that they are expected to be “constructive”. According to the relevant post of the head of the Ukrainian negotiating team, Rustem Umerou, “our job is to promote, to the maximum extent, solutions that can bring a sustainable peace.” As he said: “We have a working framework that we have agreed with the president of Ukraine and we have a clear mandate. Security and humanitarian aid issues are on the agenda.”

For its part, Moscow had also clarified that no announcements are expected (at least today) and that the talks will concern at least five axes, including “territorial, military, political, economic and security”.
