An Estonian court sentenced an Israeli to six and a half years in prison for espionage for the Russian FSB. The man was found guilty of extensive provision of sensitive information.
An Israeli citizen was sentenced to six and a half years in prison in Estonia on Wednesday for spying for neighboring Russia. The fifty-year-old man was found guilty by the court of obtaining and providing information to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). The judgment is not yet final. TASR informs about it with reference to the DPA agency.
The court said that from 2016 until his arrest last year, the Israeli was involved in activities against the security of Estonia.
Activities for the FSB
Prosecutors claimed the convicted man had provided the FSB with information on law enforcement and security forces, as well as defense infrastructure. He relayed these messages via electronic communication channels and in face-to-face meetings to FSB agents in Russia. The man also provided information about persons who could potentially be recruited to cooperate in the interests of Russia.
In addition, he allegedly participated in acts of sabotage and, in cooperation with the FSB, tried to organize the escape of a criminal arrested in Estonia and wanted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to Russia.
