  • In Bratislava and Pezinok, the second level of snow warning applies.

In Slovakia on Thursday, expect snowfall, snow tongues and drifts, as well as fog. Meteorological warnings of the first and second degree are valid in some districts. They were announced by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ), which reported on it on its website.

Level 2 snowfall warnings will be in effect from 9 a.m. until Friday (February 20) in Bratislava and Pezinok districts. 15 to 20 centimeters of new snow could fall. “The indicated height of new snow represents a great danger for human activities (traffic and movement of people). The predicted height of new snow is above average for the given time of year and area, and the probability of causing damage is high,” meteorologists warned.

The first level of snowfall warnings will apply mainly in the southern districts of western and central Slovakia and in the district of Košice. In these places, 10 to 15 centimeters of snow could fall. “The stated height of the new snow represents a potential danger for human activities,” the institute said.

In the west of the country, you also have to be careful snow tongues and driftsespecially in the early evening and evening hours. Level one warnings will be valid in some districts of the Nitra and Trnava regions at lunchtime, in other districts at 5 p.m. They will tentatively remain in effect until Friday. SHMÚ pointed out that snow tongues and drifts can create a problem for traffic.

In some districts of the Prešov region, fog must also be expected on Thursday morning. Visibility will be reduced to 50 to 200 meters. “Reduced visibility represents a potential danger for traffic activities. The occurrence of fog with the specified visibility is common at the given time of year and area, but it can cause damage of a smaller scale,” warned SHMÚ.
