Ideval Anselmo, samba-enredo composer from São Paulo, dies aged 85

Ideval Anselmoknown for his career at the Camisa Verde e Branco samba school and for being one of the main samba-enredo composers from São Paulodied this Ash Wednesday (18), aged 85, in São Paulo.

The reason for death has not yet been disclosed.

The samba singer’s wake takes place this Thursday (19), from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, at the Vila Nova Cachoeirinha Cemetery, in Vila dos Andradesnorthern part of the capital of São Paulo.

On social media, friends, family and work colleagues paid tribute to the samba singer, classifying him as “”.

Tadeu Kaçula, a sociologist and acquaintance of the artist, claimed to have produced Anselmo’s first album. He says he learned a lot from the composer “about samba and the culture of São Paulo carnival”.

Singer Fabiana Cozza, daughter of Oswaldo dos Santos, also paid tribute to the artist. In 2011, she shared the stage with her father in the recording of the classic “Narainã (Alvorada dos Pássaros)”, produced by Ideval Anselmo, Jordão and Zecão.

Oswaldo is linked to the history of the Camisa Verde e Branco samba school, which he was part of alongside Ideval.

Who was Ideval Anselmo

Ideval Anselmo was born on September 18, 1940, in Catanduva, in the interior of São Paulo. Your started in 1969, at the Camisa Verde e Branco samba school.

Three years later, in 1972, he published his work, “Literatura de Cordel”, marking the beginning of a consolidated career in São Paulo Carnival.

The sambas created by Ideval were champions in 1974, 1976, 1977 and 1979, by Camisa Verde e Branco, and in 1984, by Rosas de Ouro.

Over the years, Anselmo has had his compositions performed by names such as Jamelão, Eliana de Lima, Thobias da Vai-Vai, Fabiana Cozza and Oswaldo dos Santos. Among his classics are “Narainã, the dawn of birds” and “Atlântida and its chanchadas”.

A member of Embaixada do Samba Paulistano since 2005, he released a solo album bringing together sambas-enredo, ijexá and gafieira-style compositions.
