The federal deputy Otoni de Paula (MDB-RJ) and the state Leonel Radde (PT-RS) discussed, this Wednesday (18), in The Great Debate (from Monday to Friday, at 11pm), the demotion and criticism from evangelicals and conservative groups of the parade of the Acadêmicos de Niterói samba school, which paid homage to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
The parade caused controversy after the school presented a wing called “preserved neoconservatives”. The costume featured a can, representing a woman, made up of a man, a woman and their children. On their heads, the members carried various accessories with reference to agribusiness, an upper-class woman, defenders of the military dictatorship and evangelicals.
For deputy Otoni, the parade went wrong and generated controversy with the Christian community and conservatives.
“It went wrong. It went completely wrong. All at once, the government gets into a mess of attacks not only on , but also on Christians in general, conservatives and the traditional family,” he said.
“What established the government’s permissiveness in these attacks was the presence of President Lula at the sambadrome. If he had not been present, the government could have said that regrettably the school had this behavior, but that the government had nothing to do with it”, he explained.
“There was a total lack of sensitivity on the part of the government. And this government’s inability means that the Bolsonarist right obviously applauds all of this. And don’t think that this will be forgotten tomorrow, next week, because the Bolsonarist right will not allow this to be forgotten”, he concluded.
As for Radde, the parade generated wear and tear, but there is political opportunism on the part of the right.
“This situation is being explored at the moment, which causes some type of wear and tear,” he said. “This specific wing that created this controversy in relation to the conservative family, is a criticism carried out by the carnival, which focused on debating aspects of national politics”, he stated.
“In the report that the carnival maker explains wing by wing, he raises a debate about what happens within the National Congress in relation to some agendas”, he explained.
“There is an opportunism in this sense, which will be taken to maximum power and now we will have a debate based on this, which was not on the agenda of the day”, he said.
