The co-CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, said this Thursday, 19, that his company’s proposal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery will lead to more movie releases in theaters.
In an interview with Bloomberg TVSarandos stated that a merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. it would be “better for theaters”, as the streaming giant could also put its films on the big screen using the distribution structure that Warner has built.
“You are likely to have even more high-quality film output for theaters if this deal goes through,” he said.
Sarandos also emphasized that he is “highly confident” that the deal to acquire Warner will be closed. Netflix has granted the company a waiver to reopen negotiations with Paramount Skydance, which ends on February 23.
The statements come after reports that the U.S. Department of Justice has summoned some of the country’s largest movie theater chains for private talks about the potential impact of the Warner Bros. sale.
