US President Donald Trump is considering ordering a limited military strike against Iran as a way of pressuring Tehran to accept a nuclear deal on the terms demanded by Washington, according to sources interviewed by the Wall Street Journal.
The idea would be to launch an initial smaller-scale offensive, targeting a few military or government targets, to increase the cost of Iranian resistance without immediately launching into a large-scale operation.
According to the newspaper, if the Iranian regime continues to refuse to end uranium enrichment, the White House is considering the possibility of expanding the offensive to a more extensive campaign against the regime’s strategic installations — in a scenario that could threaten the permanence of the current authorities in Tehran.

The discussions take place in parallel with recent diplomatic negotiations between representatives of the two countries, which have so far resulted in only modest concessions from Iran.
Trump stated this Thursday (19) that he intends to decide the next steps in relation to Iran within a period of up to about two weeks, saying that he intends to “close a deal or get a deal one way or another”.
