A collision between two skiers in Harrachov in the Giant Mountains claimed the life of an elderly woman. Despite the efforts of rescuers, the fatal accident was the first of its kind this winter season.
Two skiers collided on Friday in the Czech ski resort of Harrachov in the Giant Mountains. The elderly woman did not survive the collision. The Czech police, who are investigating the case, stated this on the X social network. According to the Mountain Service of the Czech Republic, this is the first death after a collision on a slope this winter season, informs TASR reporter.
“Today around noon, two skiers, a man and a woman, collided on the slope in Harrachov. Unfortunately, the senior skier died shortly after, despite the efforts of the crew of the medical rescue service to save her,” the police wrote on the X network, saying that the circumstances of the death are being investigated on the spot.
The intervention of rescuers
In addition to the ground crews of rescuers, the air rescue service also intervened on the spot. According to the spokesman of the ZZS of the Liberec region, Michael Georgiev, the woman was resuscitated for several tens of minutes, but she could not be revived. According to station ČT24, the skier with whom the senior woman collided is fine.
In order to determine the cause of death, according to the spokeswoman of the police of the Liberec region, Dagmar Sochorová, a forensic autopsy was ordered. “All the circumstances of the entire tragic event are now being investigated by the Semila criminal investigators together with the Harrachov policemen,” the Novinky.cz server quoted the spokeswoman as saying.

The head of the Mountain Service of the Czech Republic, René Mašín, stated that this year there were more serious injuries and crashes of skiers on the slopes, but this season it was the first fatal one.
