Vienna – The declining trend in asylum numbers continued in the new year. 945 applications were submitted in January; the last time there were lower numbers was in the first month of 2012, as a look at the Interior Department’s asylum statistics shows. Compared to January of the previous year, this is a decrease of 51 percent. In Europe as a whole, the decline was 17 percent.
