Free veterinary hospital “Cão Orelha” will operate 24 hours a day in SP

The first veterinary unit in the municipal network in the city of São Paulo began operating 24 hours a day since Thursday (19). The Leste Municipal Veterinary Hospital “Cão Orelha”, in the Tatuapé neighborhood, was renamed to honor the dog that was beaten and killed at Praia Brava, in Florianópolis, capital of Santa Catarina, in January.

The veterinary unit now also provides urgent and emergency care from 5pm to 7am.

Daytime service remains available as normal. Veterinary hospitals in the municipal network offer clinical and surgical care by appointment or screening, consultations, exams, surgeries and hospitalizations can be carried out. Access, however, depends on the availability of places, with priority for serious cases.

Service

The units work with eight specialties: Ophthalmology; Cardiology; Endocrinology; Neurology; Oncology; Orthopedics; Dermatology; and Oral and maxillofacial surgery.

From 7am to 4pm, in the south, north and east units, citizens registered with CadÚnico and beneficiaries of social programs such as Bolsa Família, Auxílio Gás or Renda Mínima, can schedule appointments in person.

Anyone who does not have an active benefit can do a social screening, in which case they must bring documents that prove their economic situation.

In the west unit of the capital of São Paulo, service operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and tickets are distributed from 7am.

To perform the service, it is mandatory to present:

  • Official document with photo and CPF of the person responsible (presence mandatory)
  • Proof of residence in São Paulo (issued up to three months ago)
  • General Animal Registry (RGA)
