Matej “Sajfa” Cifra (46) and MEP Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová (37), husband and wife and parents of two, belong to couples who always face problems and challenges head on. The seasoned presenter stated in an interview that their relationship is not worth it on perfection, but on open communication.
Their wedding bells rang in 2016, and since then their family has grown to include daughter Sára (6) and son Šimonek (3). The arrival of children can really shake up a marriage. Sajfa also spoke openly about whether they faced a crisis over the years.
„I wouldn’t call it a crisis. A crisis is something more serious. But it’s clear that even in our setup over the last year, there were more of those friction surfaces, in the sense of how to handle it logistically, why I took on another extra job, why she has to go there and so on. It made life complicated” the new captain of the show “I love Slovakia” makes no secret.
“I don’t want to sound like we’re the most harmonious couple in the world, we’re not. We both have a huge amount of respect for each other that we can handle it. I have a lot of respect for her work and the energy she puts into it. I think he feels the same way about me, even though I have a much easier job. We know how to manage it,” he added, adding that children are their priority.
Cifrová Ostrihoňová is among influential men in the European Parliament. Sajfa openly admitted that he is jealous. According to him, jealousy is a natural part of a relationship, but it must be healthy and honest. “We’re not morbidly jealous, but as soon as I sense an elderly MP hanging around her, I’ll warn you,” he said through the camera with his typical dose of humor.
They have been a couple since 2009, and the blonde still has the beginnings of their relationship fresh in her mind. “A meeting at Aupark, a first date on Children’s Day, a kindergartener in hand and a memorable sentence: “I’m not just a moderator, I have an s.r.o.!”. Then came the long-distance months – between Bratislava and New York,” she recalled on Instagram.
Even though the then 30-year-old presenter was labeled by the media as a “lover of beautiful women”, he flew to his chosen one every moment. “With jetlag, he (didn’t) watch plays and dinners, but after three days he was back home again. And in the meantime? Endless Skype conversations (younger people, please google it) late at night,” she described.
She added that they spent the years before the wedding working and traveling. Sajfa proposed to Veronika in 2015. “He didn’t get down on one knee for real, but he asked for real. And a year later, in 2016, our wedding. A beautiful ceremony, many loved ones, partying until the morning and even new partnerships were formed at our wedding. I rate 10/10,” she wrote, alluding to Adela Vincze and Viktor Vincze.
“There followed a period of marriage and work – simple, peaceful, beautiful. Then came the first pregnancy. I remember the mountain of consumed ice and our first meeting with Sari, still in the belly. And then outside of it. There was a lot of happiness, little sleep. There were three of us. We discovered new dimensions of happiness, stress and love,” she described.
At the beginning of 2022, they revealed that they are expecting another baby. Veronika does not hide that their second pregnancy surprised them. “A huge amount of ice again and this time Šimon in the belly. His birth was the most beautiful birth and the most intense experience. And there were four of us. Additional levels of happiness, stress and love – plus the bonus of a young man waking up ten times a night,” confided the MEP.
The Cifr family planned a year of peace, but it ended when she decided to run for the European Parliament. “It was a big challenge, but with the greatest support from the family. And so came the elections, new beginnings, a new city, new experiences, new stresses, new fatigue. But the old love remains. And I hope it lasts. Forever. Love, not weariness,” she confessed at the end of the post. Sajfa responded to his wife’s emotional words in the comments. “The lover of beautiful women chose the most beautiful!” he flattered his love.
