Former UK ambassador to the USA was arrested this Monday in London on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He will have received money from Epstein in exchange for confidential information potentially capable of influencing financial markets.
Former British Labor Minister Peter Mandelson was arrested this Monday in London under suspected misconduct in public officeannounced the Metropolitan Police.
A spokesperson for the police force stated that “a 72-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public service” and “taken to a police station in London for questioning”.
According to the same source, search warrants were executed at two addresses in Wiltshire and Camden counties. The investigation is linked to documents by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) about Jeffrey Epstein, which contain emails and financial documents linking Mandelson to the American fund manager convicted of sexual assault of an underage girl.
Among these documents, emails appear that would indicate that Mandelson would have forwarded confidential information potentially capable of influencing financial markets to his friend in 2009, when he was Minister of Economy.
The documents also include records of transfers of approximately $75,000 (64 thousand euros), between 2003 and 2004, from accounts associated with Epstein to accounts linked to Mandelson or the husband of the now imprisoned man, Reinaldo Ávila da Silva.
The former politician questioned the authenticity of the extracts and, upon disassociating himself from the Labor Party, He said he didn’t remember of having received such amounts and denied having committed any irregularity.
In September 2025, the member of the United Kingdom’s House of Lords, who was part of Tony Blair’s Government, was dismissed as the United Kingdom’s ambassador to the United States, after evidence emerged that kept in touch with Epstein after conviction.
The Government has indicated that it intends to publish documents on the recruitment process at the beginning of March.
Former Prince Andrew, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was also sued last week for suspected misconduct. He may have given information to Epstein. The last time a member of British royalty was arrested, in , the monarchy was overthrown and a republic was established.
