Luís Neves assumes the Internal Administration portfolio and maintains secretaries of State

The until now director of the PJ is sworn in this morning by the President of the Republic, at the Belém Palace. Luís Neves will replace Maria Lúcia Amaral as Minister of Internal Administration.

Luís Neves, until now national director of the Judiciary Police, will take office at 10 am this Monday as Minister of Internal Administration. The ceremony will take place at the Palácio de Belém, in Lisbon. Three state secretaries of the ministry will also take office.

Luís Neves chose to keep the secretaries of State of the former minister.

Paulo Simões Ribeiro, Telmo Correia e Rui Rocha will be reappointed as Deputy Secretary of State and Internal Administration, Secretary of State for Internal Administration and Secretary of State for Civil Protection respectively, moving from Maria Lúcia Amaral’s team.

This was the first change in the composition of the Government of Luís Montenegro, which took office on June 5th of last year. Luís Neves is the third party holder of the Internal Administration portfolio in two years.

On February 10, Maria Lúcia Amaral resigned from her position as Minister of Internal Administration following the wave of criticism for the way the former minister acted and managed storm response Kristin that devastated the national territory at the end of January.
