Rains in MG: Ubá has landslides and cars washed away by floods

O municipality of Ubá, in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, register a scene of destruction after heavy rains which hit the region between this Monday (23) and Tuesday (24). The storms caused the collapse of a house, flooding, obstruction of roads and flash floods.

By telephone, the Civil Defense of Ubá informed the CNN Brazil what is there missing and victims rainfall in the city, but there is still no accurate figure.

According to the city hall, a collection and service point was installed at the headquarters of the Secretariat of Social Development, located in the former Cultural Forum, in Praça São Januário, to provide support to homeless families.

In a statement, the organization highlights that it is receiving donations of non-perishable food, drinking water, cleaning materials and personal hygiene items.

Rain in Juiz de Fora

This Tuesday (24), a state of public calamity was declared in Juiz de Fora, southeastern region of Minas Gerais. According to the city hall, to date, 14 deaths have been reported as a result of the rain. The published measure declares the exceptional situation for a period of 180 days.

The agency reported that, this Monday (23), the accumulated volume of rain reached the mark of 584 millimeters by midnight, making February 2026 the wettest month ever recorded in the city’s historywith rainfall almost four times above the historical average for the period.

From around 9:15 pm on Monday, until 4 am this Tuesday, 211 calls were reported. According to the Minas Gerais Fire Department, these calls mark occurrences of landslides, landslides, stranded people and burials.

Due to the severity of the rains, the corporation mobilized, early this morning, more than 20 soldiers from the Environmental Emergency and Disaster Response Battalion, as well as rescue materials and search dogs to respond to calls.

Authorities advise that, if there is any sign of earth movement, residents should immediately leave the area and seek safe shelter.
