A woman died in hospital after a knife attack in the east of Slovakia: Police are taking action

In the case of a stabbed woman, found on Sunday (February 22) in the village of Helcmanovce in the Gelnica district, the police investigator reclassified the initiated criminal prosecution to a particularly serious crime of murder. This happened after the woman succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on Tuesday (February 24) in the evening. Košice regional police spokeswoman Lenka Ivanová informed about it.

A 45-year-old man is facing charges in connection with the attack, who ended up in custody after the incident.

The woman was injured after a previous verbal conflict between them, which resulted in a physical attack with a sharp object – with a knife to the abdomen and then to the head. It required her immediate transfer to one of the hospitals in Košice and urgent medical intervention. She finally succumbed to her injuries.

“The investigator of the criminal police department of the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Košice reclassified the criminal prosecution initiated for a particularly serious crime of murder, committed in the attempted stage, to a particularly serious crime of murder (completed act).” Ivanova informed.
