Motta rules out opening Master’s CPI: “Not even if I wanted to” – 02/26/2026 – Brasília Hoje

The President of the House, , ruled out the possibility of opening a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) into the Banco Master fraud. The House has already filed a request for an investigation, with pressure from the opposition and part of the center and left benches to initiate it.

“It is mandatory to obey this chronological order [de pedidos]. We have 16 CPIs registered on the most diverse topics. Regimentally, it is necessary to analyze the chronology, to have the fact determined. In the Chamber, only 5 CPIs can operate at the same time. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t get to this CPI that deals with Banco Master”, said Motta in an interview with the portal.

The deputy stated that the investigation is being carried out in the appropriate spheres and defended the role of STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister Dias Toffoli in the case. The PF (Federal Police) as rapporteur after the lawyer’s alleged relations with Banco Master.

“The control bodies, the PF itself, are investigating this case, giving due attention to the investigation into possible irregularities in this matter. I think the STF has played its role. The decisions given by the former rapporteur, Dias Toffoli, met all the requests of the MP and PF. There was an exaggeration on the part of the media about the role played by Minister Toffoli, who conducted his decisions with great balance”, commented Motta.

The PF’s suspicion of Toffoli was the result of material collected about Banco Master. Mentions of the minister were found in conversations seized on the cell phone of Daniel Vorcaro, owner of the bank.

Authorities also investigate money transfers to Toffoli from a company that was a partner in a fund linked to Master at a resort. As revealed by the columnist Sheet Mônica Bergamo, the minister admitted that he received the money.

Motta also said he was against the use of other functioning CPIs, such as the INSS and Organized Crime, to investigate the Master. “I think it is wrong to change the scope of the CPI to create an electoral platform on another issue. The CPI has a scope, a determined fact, and it is not correct to use a CPI to investigate what was not the initial fact for what it was proposed. We defend an impartial investigation”, he stated.
