“Very intense” diarrhea caused dehydration, which led to fainting. I’m fine and I’m going to be wonderful”, assured the singer, who warned about the danger of the vasovagal reflex that took her to the hospital.

The artist Ivete Sangalo was discharged from hospital this Thursday, in Salvador, after being admitted on Wednesday morning following a faint caused by dehydration that left visible marks on the Brazilian singer’s body.

As Sangalo explained, the episode was the result of a virus contracted in the post-Carnival period, which caused severe gastrointestinal discomfort.

“What a scare, huh! That night I had a very intense diarrheaprobably a virus that I caught, a very bad headache, I spent the night going to the bathroom”, said Sangalo in a video on his Instagram.

“At around seven in the morning, I became dehydrated because of the diarrhea, my blood pressure dropped and I passed out, I fell to the floor with everythingI even got cuts”, he said, still in the hospital bed.

The singer — who was alone at the time of the accident — wanted despite everything to reassure her fans. “Everything is fine, I’m being well looked after by very competent doctors. I’m fine and I’m going to be wonderful”, she assured, in the same video on her Instagram.

On the way home, the singer appeared again on social media with her usual sense of humor. After being discharged, the artist posted a video of herself in the car with visible marks on her face, including her right eye, which was very black.

“I really liked this new makeup”, she joked: “I look great, wonderful”, also thanking the many messages of support received.

The singer explained that dehydration was a consequence of her “super-diarrhea” and that she has a kind of predisposition to fainting, something that will be related to the vagus nerve. According to the explanation given to him, the case may be related to a vasovagal reflextriggered by dehydration. The artist said she has a predisposition for this type of body response, in which the vagus nerve can cause momentary loss of consciousness in certain circumstances.

A vasovagal crisis is described by experts as a sudden, generally brief episode of fainting, caused by an exaggerated response from the autonomic nervous system. This response causes a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure, temporarily reducing blood flow to the brain. It is one of the most frequent causes of syncope and in most cases, it is not serious.

Pain, emotional stress, vision of blood, heat, dehydration, prolonged fasting or standing for a long time are factors that trigger this crisis.

Before fainting, warning signs such as dizziness, nausea, cold sweats, feeling hot, blurred or “black” vision, and weakness. Loss of consciousness usually lasts less than a minute.

When symptoms begin, the person you should lie down and elevate your legs, or sit with your head between your kneesto facilitate the return of blood to the brain. Drink fluidsavoiding triggers and recognizing early signs can help prevent new episodes.
