AJEB Nacional appoints new board of directors and reaffirms the strength of female writing as a collective legacy

Irislene Morato, de Minas Gerais

The word was the protagonist. Between memories, recognition and projections for the future, the Association of Journalists and Writers of Brazil (AJEB) held the national event for the 2026–2028 cycle, in a ceremony broadcast live on YouTube and accompanied by members from different regions of the country.

More than an institutional formality, the event symbolized the continuity of a trajectory built over 56 years by women who transformed writing into a space for female expression, resistance and intellectual production in Brazil.

The presidency now passes from the hands of writer and journalist Renata Dal Bó, from Santa Catarina, to Irislene Morato, from Minas Gerais, who takes over with the mission of expanding the entity’s national presence and strengthening its cultural and literary actions.

A story that continues to be written

In his farewell speech, he highlighted that no management is born in isolation, but is part of a collective process started decades ago by the association’s founders.

During his management, important advances were consolidated, such as the creation of the institutional portal and the publication of the work Tecendo Memórias, a book that records the trajectories and contributions of the Ajebianas to Brazilian literature and journalism.

By emphasizing the moment the entity is experiencing, Renata defined AJEB as an institution that reaches maturity without losing its essence. He spoke of valuing the written word as an instrument of social transformation.

Continuity with new horizons

Upon officially assuming the presidency, Irislene Morato presented a management based on continuity combined with innovation. For the second time at the head of the Association, Irislene is also responsible for important structural advances, such as the legal regularization of state coordinators, the creation of coordination in several states in Brazil, such as the coordinators of Rondônia, Bahia and the reactivation of those in Espírito Santo and Pará.
Among the priorities announced is the creation of strategic directorates aimed at professional strengthening of members, especially in access to cultural notices and institutional partnerships.

The proposal seeks to expand the financial autonomy of literary projects and encourage the circulation of female production in different cultural spaces in the country, bringing AJEB closer to institutions such as Sebrae and other development agents.

The new executive board brings together representatives from several Brazilian states, reinforcing the plural and national character of the entity.

Literature as an encounter

The ceremony also functioned as an invitation to the future. The 6th National and 5th International Meeting of AJEB was officially announced, scheduled to take place between the 9th and 12th of April, in Sinop (MT). The event will bring together writers, journalists and researchers to exchange experiences, literary debates and strengthen the female network of intellectual production.

The closing took place with the reading of the traditional AJEB oath, a symbolic moment in which the members reaffirmed their commitment to “cultivating belles lettres, scientific thought and the creation of beauty”, reaffirming the motto that crosses generations: the perenniality of the word.

More than an inauguration, the ceremony marked the renewal of a collective pact, that of keeping female writing alive as memory, presence and future.
