In his testimony before the House Oversight Committee, former US President Bill Clinton denied any knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes, as he only knew him for a short time and they parted ways long before his crimes came to light. TASR informs about it according to the DPA agency.

  • He claims that he only knew Epstein for a short time.

  • Clinton testified about joint trips and meetings with Epstein.

“I saw nothing and did nothing wrong,” the 79-year-old former US president said in his opening statement, which he posted on the social network X. “I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing,” Clinton added.

“You’ll often hear from me that I don’t remember,” he said before his statement, saying he wouldn’t say anything he wasn’t sure about, since the events were 24 years ago. If he had any suspicions, he would have reported Epstein, he said.

He stood up for his wife

The former president also defended his wife, Hillary Clinton, who testified a day earlier, while she had to repeat several times before the committee that she did not know Epstein. According to Clinton, it was wrong to force his wife to testify, since “she had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein. Nothing at all.”

The Clintons’ hearing is being held behind closed doors in Chappaqua, New York, where they both live. The committee’s Republican chairman, James Comer, said before the hearing that the former president is expected to testify about photos, emails and travel related to convicted sex predator Epstein.

DPA reminds that, according to available information, Epstein was in the White House 17 times during Clinton’s presidency, and the former president traveled on his plane at least 27 times. Republicans plan to release the full video transcripts of the hearing as soon as possible.
