French President Emmanuel Macron is meeting this Saturday in emergency with the National Defense and Security Council, accompanied by ministers and defense and security experts, to define France’s position in the face of growing tension between the United States, Israel and Iran.
The meeting comes ahead of an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council, scheduled for this evening, at the request of several countries, incluindo France.
According to SIC correspondent in Paris, Guilherme Monteiro, the objective is to send a signal that the conflict must be resolved through diplomatic channels, mI support Paris’ historical position of privileging dialogue over direct military actions.
In the last few hours, Macron consulted European partners, such as the United Kingdom and Germany, and Arab allies, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, to coordinate the French response.
The priority is to avoid a military escalation that could cause serious economic effects, migratory crises and attacks by terrorist groups.
