Inmate dies in Linhó prison after cellmate's attack

A 24-year-old prisoner was killed in the early hours of Saturday in a cell at the Linhó Prison, in Sintra, after an altercation with those who shared the cell, announced the General Directorate of Reinsertion and Prison Services.

A fatal victim, aged 24, was serving a sentence of seven years and seven months in prisonwhile the attacker was sentenced to a sentence of eight years and nine months.

The guard who was opening the cells realized what had happened and called the nurse on duty to the scene, who confirmed the absence of vital signs.

The protocol for these situations was immediately activated, adds the DGRSP statement, highlighting that INEM was also activated, which confirmed the death.

The GNR of Alcabideche took over the legal procedures until the arrival of the Judiciary Police, who were responsible for investigating the incident.
