Best-seller Augusto Cury wants to run for President – 02/28/2026 – Panel

He says he will announce his pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic on Monday (2), motivated by the desire to “debate projects in an adequate and intelligent way” in the face of the polarization between Lula (PT) and Flávio Bolsonaro (PL).

“I don’t want to be a threat to anyone’s biography, not Flávio’s, not Lula’s. I’m not going to talk bad about people, I discuss ideas. I want to talk about very important projects like preparing Brazil for the tsunami of artificial intelligence and robotics challenges”, says the writer. “I hope that agriculture, public security, industry, see better days”, he adds.

To the Panel, Cury says that he hopes to be chosen by a party and has already spoken with former president Michel Temer (MDB) and party presidents Marcos Pereira (Republicans) and Renata Abreu (Podemos).

“I’m about to make an appointment with the [Gilberto] Kassab, who is a great political organizer in Brazil”, said Cury.

“I had an in-depth conversation with Michel Temer, we talked exactly about projects, such as changing the system from presidentialism to semi-presidentialism.”

The fact that he is one of the most read writers in the country in recent decades increases his responsibility even further, says the psychiatrist.

In a letter addressed to the press and society, Cury says that he sees no pleasure in power, but places himself as a pre-candidate with sacrifice and donation.

“We live in a time when families are divided, friendships have been broken and hate speech permeates the fabric of Brazilian society. If anything moves me, it is the attempt to pacify the country,” wrote Cury.

In an excerpt of the letter entitled Projeto Brasil (2027-2050), Cury lists topics such as fiscal responsibility, sustainability of the social security system, the risk of job losses due to AI, reindustrialization, land regularization and education.

“Brazil’s debt is so high that we pay almost R$1 trillion in interest per year, a historic amount. Each Brazilian child is born owing around R$40,000, paying very high interest. Nothing so unfair”, says Cury.

Augusto Cury is a psychiatrist and wrote books that became best-sellers, such as “Dream Seller” and “Anxiety – How to face the evil of the century”.
