Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, suggested this Monday (2) that the country’s military units are acting independently, when asked about attacks against Arab nations in retaliation for the United States and Israel’s offensive against the Iranian regime.
“In fact, our military units are now de facto independent and isolated and are acting based on general instructions given to them in advance,” Araghchi told the broadcaster Al Jazeera.
According to him, Iran could elect a new supreme leader within a day or two. “The transitional council is established,” he said, describing a body made up of three members: the president, the head of the judiciary and a jurist from the Guardian Council. “This group of three will act as responsible leaders until the new leader is elected.”

President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed on Sunday that the council had “started its work” in a pre-recorded address broadcast on Iranian state television, in which he also condemned Khamenei’s murder as “a great crime” and declared a seven-day national holiday in addition to the period of mourning.
