1 March (Reuters) – Argentina needs to revamp its tax system, President Javier Milei said on Sunday in his opening speech to ordinary sessions of Congress, adding that his government will pursue additional reforms in 2026 which he also considers essential.
“We need lower taxes because the tax system should serve growth, not the revenue needs of those in power,” said Milei.
Other reforms his government will promote include changes to the country’s electoral system and criminal code, he said.

Milei’s government won a major political victory on Friday when Congress approved controversial labor reforms that critics say will make it easier for companies to fire workers. This followed the president’s strong performance in the midterm elections in October.
