Texas shooter wore clothing with an Iranian flag design, police official says

The gunman who killed two people at a Texas bar on Sunday, March 1, in a shooting that left 14 others injured, was wearing a sweatshirt that said “Property of Allah” and a shirt with an Iranian flag design, a law enforcement official said.

The shooter was identified as Ndiaga Diagne, 53, according to the same source and another person with knowledge of the case.

The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the investigation.

The shooting occurred a day after Israel and the United States launched an attack on Iran that killed the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The FBI, the US federal police, said it was investigating the shooting as a potential act of terrorism.

Diagne is originally from Senegal, according to sources. One of the sources said he came to the US in 2006 and was a naturalized US citizen.

Austin police officers shot and killed the shooter, who used both a handgun and a rifle to carry out the attack, police said.

The suspect drove past the bar several times before stopping and firing a pistol from the window of his SUV at people on a patio and in front of the bar, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said.

The gunman then parked his vehicle, got out with a rifle and began shooting at people walking in the area before officers shot him, Davis said.
