All you need to do in your free time is take a short walk to the garden in search of young willow shoots. You will prepare a rooting agent from themwhich effectively supports the development of roots and helps them take root faster.
It is worth using rooting agents because: support the formation of new roots in seedlings. Therefore, they are very useful when plants are propagated by cutting off a part of the shoot, from which a new plant will later be created. Especially if it is, for example, a hard, woody shoot (magnolia, azalea, quince, ficus, cypress or yew.
They also contain growth-stimulating substances, which help plants adapt and recover faster after transplanting. Due to the fact that it strengthens the root system, it indirectly makes it easier for the seedlings to absorb water and nutrients from the ground, which results in their better condition.
If you don’t want to use store-bought preparations, try an alternative: homemade rooting agent from willow water, i.e. water extract from young willow shoots. It contains substances that act similarly to growth hormones, stimulating root development. Willow also contains salicin, which is very importantbecause it supports and can limit the development of some pathogens.
Preparing a home-made plant rooter yourself is easier than you think. For this you will only need young, relatively thin willow shoots. It’s best if they are still green or yellowish (not fully woody as this will make things more difficult).
Cut the willow branches into small pieces and pour warm water over them. Set aside the shoots overnight and strain out the liquid. Use this rooting agent by soaking the bottom of the seedlings before planting them. You can also water freshly planted plants with it. But remember that You must use the willow water rooting agent within 3-5 days. It is best to store it in the refrigerator during this time.
