Well-known MMA fighter Gábor Boráros (33) still cannot believe that his former partner and mother of his daughter Zorka tragically died in a car accident. In an honest interview, he talked about the most difficult moments of his life, the identification of the body of Monika Jákliová († 31) and how he broke the devastating news to their little daughter Zora.
Although they have not been a couple for years and their relationship has gone through various difficulties, the wrestler admitted that it was once a great love. “We met 13 or 14 years ago. Back then, everything was beautiful and it was great love. That’s why it lasted so long,” recalls Boráros. After the breakup, their relationship was not ideal, but he never imagined that he would be alone on Zorka.
He found out about the tragedy on the morning of January 21 around 07:00, just as he was preparing his daughter for kindergarten. First, Monika’s friend called him crying, but he couldn’t process her words. Definitive confirmation came immediately from his brother, who works as a firefighter in Dunajská Streda. “He told me that Zora’s mom was gone. I heard his words, but I couldn’t take them in. I actually still can’t believe it.” he admits.
At that time, little Zora was sitting on the couch and watching a fairy tale. Gábor tried not to reveal anything about himself so as not to startle her, and took her to the kindergarten. Subsequently, his steps led to the hospital. Until he saw the body, he refused to believe it was true.
“I was still convinced she wouldn’t be there when the body was uncovered. When I saw her, I couldn’t say anything but profanity. I still couldn’t believe it. I had to touch her. I put my hand on her head and then my whole life flashed before my eyes… Especially our daughter and the fact that no one will replace Monči in her life,” he described the most difficult moments.
After the tragedy, Boraros faced the most difficult task in his life – he had to tell little Zora. He therefore consulted a psychologist beforehand. The right moment came a few days later when they were playing. When Zora playfully told him that he “died”, Gábor asked her if she knew what that meant.
He found out that the daughter thinks that after death a person receives an injection and the doctor cures him. “I explained to her that it wasn’t like that and when someone dies, we never see them again. In the evening, I took a deep breath and told her that it was dark, foggy, mom was driving fast, hit a tree and died.” he added.
Zora was crying and asking about the details of the accident. Today, according to Gábor, she herself says that mom will not return because she died. “I told her that mom is with the angels, she always looks out for her and is happy to see how well she draws, dances and sings,” he concluded, adding that, according to the psychologist, it’s good that the little girl doesn’t stifle her emotions.
